If you don’t pay child support in New York State, your spouse can apply to the Support Collection Unit in the family court of whatever county you live in. The Support Collection Unit will bring their case in family court. If you don’t pay your child support, you’ll be in contempt of court. Contempt of court means that if you don’t pay, you can be put in jail. Also, your salary can be attached so that there will be money taken from it every month directly to the Child Support Collection Unit.
